Fort Wayne native, Ralph Miller (1896-1939) played major league baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1920 and 1921 then again for the Washington Senators in 1924 which is where he appeared in the World Series against the New York Giants. Miller hold the distinction to date as the only Fort Wayne native to win a World Series (though other Fort Wayne baseball figures have won titles, none were born in the city.)
Miller went 2 for 11 with 2 RBI in the 1924 World Series which would prove to be his final major league baseball appearances. Throughout his baseball career, Miller stayed close to Fort Wayne, playing and coaching professional basketball in the Summit City with the Fort Wayne Casey/Hoosiers of the American Basketball League.
